Exciting Employment Opportunities – Botswana’s First Underground Diamond Mine (Green Fields Project)

Gem Diamonds Botswana (GDB) is the holder of a mining licence over a diamond deposit located at Gope in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR). The Company is currently developing the first underground diamond mine in Botswana, as a green field’s project. The mine will be known as the Ghaghoo Diamond Mine.


The Company will operate various shift roster systems whereby employees will only be accommodated at the mine during the on shift period rotation (9 days on 5 days off rotation for management; and 14 days on 7 days off for production). The on – site accommodation comprises of a well- appointed and equipped single status tented camp. There are no permanent residents at the camp.

The company is currently looking to recruit the following staff members in readiness of the commencement of the capital development and operating phases of the operation;
-Diamond Security Technician
-Diamond Assurance Officer
-Diamond Risk Officer

1.DIAMOND SECURITY TECHNICIAN

Reporting to the Security Manager, the incumbent will primarily be responsible for the maintenance of the Security System and its availability.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

•Diploma in Electrical/ Electronic Engineering or equivalent
•At least 3 years post qualification experience as a Security Technician
•Advanced Computer Literacy and experience in general instrumentation in a mining environment would be an added advantage

2.DIAMOND ASSURANCE OFFICER

Reporting to the Security Manager the incumbent will be responsible for the investigation functions of the mine to minimize losses to the company.

•Investigation and Reporting
•Enforcement of company policies and procedures
•Safety, Health and Environment

Educational and Experience Requirements:

•Diploma in Security/ Risk Management or equivalent
•At least 3 years experience in high value security environment
•Diamond security experience will be an added advantage
•Computer literacy

Competencies:

•Investigation skills
•Attention to detail
•Problem solving and decision making
•Reporting writing

3.DIAMOND RISK OFFICER

Reporting to the Diamond Risk Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for physical security services (escort, searches, freight and low level risk assessment)

•Diamond security
•Asset Protection
•Delivery of quality service to customers
•Enforcement of company policies and procedures
•Ensure compliance with Security and Safety policies and procedures

Educational and Experience Requirements:

•BGCSE or equivalent
•At least 2 years working experience in high value security environment
•Diamond security experience will be an added advantage, especially working knowledge of security access management and CCTV systems
•Computer Literacy
