Basic Function of Position:
The Biomedical Prevention Specialist works under the direction of the Biomedical Prevention Team Led as a key public health advisor to the Biomedical Prevention Team Lead, Prevention Branch management and CDC management.  The major focus of the position is the development and implementation of biomedical strategies for the prevention of HIV.  The job holder’s responsibilities include day-to-day program and administrative management, and coordination and collaboration with other PEPFAR agencies to ensure that project implementation addresses program strategic objectives and internationally recognized public health standards and best practices.  This management role requires public health technical leadership, results-oriented analysis, advocacy, and constant and clear communication with implementing partners.
The incumbent serves as the primary CDC contact for assigned implementing partners for issues related to CDC-supported prevention program activities and a leading expert within the U.S. Government interagency technical team.  Serves as the Activity Manager for prevention components of 4-5 CDC supported cooperative agreements in South Africa.  Serves as a primary contributor to the planning, development, and review of prevention components of the annual Country Operational Plan (COP) for South Africa and identifies linkages for prevention activities within other PEPFAR program areas.  Monitors and evaluates progress of projects, identifying technical, personnel, logistical, and financial problems and makes or recommends revisions as necessary to overcome obstacles and constraints to progress.  The job holder represents CDC South Africa on HIV prevention issues at technical, policy and strategic planning meetings, including meetings with collaborators and donor agencies.  Identifies training needs and participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of training courses for partner organizations.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:
 Serves as chauffeur/driver for CDC Botswana; responsible for driving and maintaining CDC’s official vehicles; transports health care workers, CDC employees within Gaborone and other areas of Botswana in order to perform official duties; delivers and picks up official documents, supplies, correspondence, packages and lab samples at government offices, clinics, hospitals, and businesses; meets and assists new arrivals and official visitors at the airport and other official functions; closely observes security guidelines and instruction in the operation of US Government vehicles; provides daily routine maintenance on vehicles and ensures they are clean, neat, and safe working condition for all roads

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
-- Completion of Secondary School
-- Two years chauffeur experience
--Level II English ability and Level IV Setswana fluent is required.
--General knowledge of automotive maintenance, maintenance practices and procedures and vehicle safety; familiar with local traffic laws, area traffic patterns, knowledge of Gaborone and surrounding Botswana areas; knowledge of effective cleaning methods and of supplies and equipment used in cleaning of vehicles.
--Must be able to operate various vehicles and have a good driving record and ability to lift 25 kilograms or the weight of a diplomatic mail pouch
--Must have a valid driver’s license.

U.S Embassy Botswana Vacancies

The U.S E embassy, in Gaborone is seeking individuals for the following position:

1. DATA ENTRY CLERK; FSN- 5/FP-9 ; N14/1
(P67, 316 p.a starting salary per year + benefits) based in Gaborone

Length of Hire: not to exceed 1 year from date of hire

Basic Function of the Position:

•The Data Clerk will be responsible for entering data on existing data collection forms and transfer them to a computer
•Responsible for solving errors on printed forms and for the contact point for routine reporting of data received for CDC/Botswana TB Project Sites.

Qualifications required:

•Secondary education followed by graduation certificate from certified computer training college is required
•2 years data entry experience is required
•Fluent in English and Setswana
•Must have comprehensive knowledge of computer data input equipment, process and procedures. Knowledge of Access, Epilnfo and Clindex programs are an advantage.
•Must be able to type at least 40 words per minute; Communicates well with management to identify and resolve problems in data entry.

2. RADIO TECHNICIAN; FSN 07/FP ; N14/09

(P103, 775 p.a starting salary per year + benefits) based in Selebi- Phikwe

Basic Function of the Position:

•Operate and maintain high power short wave and medium wave transmitters, antenna systems, and FR distribution systems.
•In addition, install, operate and maintain sophisticated electronic equipment used for the control and delivery of audio and data signals, as well as full standby power generating facilities, works on rotation shifts.

Qualifications required:

•Completion of secondary school plus 2 years post secondary curriculum in electronics technology is required.
•Two years experience in short- wave radio broadcasting electronics or similar technical communications field is required
•Fluent in English
•Practical knowledge in the maintenance and operation of HF and medium wave transmitters (to 500 kw), high power RF antenna system, audio and communications equipment, and analog/digital control systems.
•Must have a fundamental knowledge of safety procedures and cardiovascular pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
•Must have ability to maintain and operate HF radio equipment and a variety of ancillary electronic equipment and skills in utilizing complex electronic test equipment.
•Must possess and maintain a valid Botswana driver’s licence.
