Org. Setting and Reporting
The position is located in the English Unit, Meetings Coverage
Section, Coverage and Media Services Branch of the News and Media Division in
the Department of Global Communications. Overall guidance is provided by the
Chief of Section, and direct supervision by a Senior Editor and a Senior
Editorial Assistant. The Meetings Coverage Section produces press release
summaries, in English and French, of official meetings and other United Nations
events at Headquarters and at overseas conferences.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Editorial Assistant will be
responsible for the following duties:
• Proofreads and reviews meetings summaries and press releases for clarity,
spelling, grammar, consistency and factual accuracy in accordance with UN
editorial guidelines and terminology.
• Ensures that text is formatted to UN Press style and standards.
• Posts on the UN website the final versions of the meetings coverage/press
releases.
• Provides general office support; responds to complex information requests and
inquiries.
• Sets up and maintains files/records, organizes meetings, monitors deadlines,
etc.
• Provides specialized assistance to Press Officers in the production and
delivery of information, communications products and services.
• Rotates in shifts, as needed.
• Stays available for overtime and on-call assignments, depending on the needs
of the office.
• Performs other related work as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Work Experience
A minimum of three (3) years of work experience in public
information, including the production of meeting summaries and press releases,
as well as draft typing, copy editing, proofreading and typographical layout or
related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced
to one (1) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or
higher.
Experience using Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and SharePoint) is
required.
Experience in formatting as well as proofreading material for online
publication is required.
Experience in web content management systems such as Drupal or WordPress is
desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United
Nations Secretariat. For the posts advertised, fluency in English is required.
Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include a technical
assessment test which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
Appointment against this position is for an initial period
of one year.
This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the
