VACANCY NO. FET/CE 13/2018:
LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN MINING ENGINEERING, DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING (2
positions)
Applications are invited for the position of
Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering
Duties: The successful candidate will be expected
to (i) teach undergraduate courses in Mining Engineering in more than one of
the following courses: Mine Planning, Mine Supervision and Management, Surface
Mine Design, Mine Drainage, Mine Power, Mine Environmental Management
(ii) conduct and produce results of scholarly work, actively involving
students at B. Eng. Degree level (iii) carry out any other duties and
responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of Department.
Requirements: Lecturer: Applicants should
have (i) a Master’s degree in Mining Engineering or related field plus (ii) a
Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering obtained from recognized
institution with at least a 2(i) pass/GPA of at least 3.6 out of 5 or
equivalent; (iii) evidence of engagement in research and service;
(iv) be registered or eligible for registration with a professional
engineering body. A PhD in Mining Engineering or related field is an added
advantage. Preference will also be given to applicants with teaching experience
at a university level or comparable institution in more than one area of the
following: Mine Planning, Mine Supervision and Management, Surface Mine Design,
Mine Drainage, Mine Power, Mine Environmental Management, as well as a good
research and publication record in areas relevant to Mining Engineering.
Senior Lecturer: Applicants
should have (i) a Master’s degree in Mining Engineering or related field plus
(ii) a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering obtained from recognized
institution with at least a 2(i) pass/GPA of at least 3.6 out of 5 or
equivalent; (iii) at least 3years
of teaching and research supervision experience in core mining engineering
subjects at undergraduate and graduate levels at a University or comparable
institution; (iv) a good and sustained record of research and
publications with at least 6 publications, 4 of
which should be refereed journal articles; lead and/or single author in at
least 2 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (v) evidence of engagement in
service; (vi) registered professional engineer or eligible for
registration with the Engineering Registration Board (ERB).Evidence of academic leadership and a
PhD in Mining Engineering or related field is added advantage. Preference will
also be given to applicants with teaching experience in more than one area of
the following: Mine Planning, Mine Supervision and Management, Surface Mine
Design, Mine Drainage, Mine Power, Mine Environmental Management, as well as a
good research and publication record in areas relevant to Mining Engineering. Applicants should clearly state
their areas of teaching and research experience. The curriculum
vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications: clearly specifying
titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers, name(s) of
co-authors if any and number of pages. The publications should be categorized
into: books, monographs, chapters in books, refereed and non-refereed journals,
consultancies etc. The CV should also have a detailed list of courses taught
and the levels for which they were taught.
