VACANCY NO. FET/CE 12/2018: LECTURER/SENIOR
LECTURER IN STRUCTURES, DEPARTMENT
OF CIVIL ENGINEERING
Applications are invited for the position of
Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering.
Duties: The successful candidate is expected to (i)
teach undergraduate and graduate courses in core structural engineering
particularly construction engineering materials – concrete, steel and timber;
(ii) supervise students’ research projects and dissertations/theses at both
undergraduate and graduate levels in structures and civil engineering
materials; (iii) conduct research in the area of expertise; (iv) provide
service to the university, the profession and the community; and (v) carry out
any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department.
Requirements: Lecturer: Candidates should
have: (i) a relevant Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with at
least a 2(i) pass/GPA of at least 3.6 on a 5 point scale or equivalent; (ii) a
Master’s Degree in Structural
Engineering or Construction Engineering Materials or related field; (iii)
registered or eligible for registration with an engineering professional body;
(iv) evidence of engagement in research and service. Teaching experience in
Construction Engineering Materials with strong background in core Structural
engineering at a University or comparable institution and a relevant PhD will
be added advantage.
Senior Lecturer: Candidates should have: (i) ) a
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from a
recognized University with at least a 2(i) pass/GPA of at least 3.6 on a 5
point scale or equivalent; (ii)
a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering; (iii) at least 3 years
of teaching and research supervision experience in core structural engineering
subjects at undergraduate and graduate levels at a University or comparable
institution; (iv) registered professional engineer or eligible for
registration with the Engineering Registration Board (ERB); (v) a good and
sustained record of research and publications with at least 6publications, 4 of
which should be refereed journal articles; lead and/or single author in at
least 2 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (vi) evidence of engagement in
service. Evidence of academic leadership and a PhD in Structural
Engineering will be added advantages. Applicants should clearly state their areas
of teaching and research experience. The curriculum vitae (CV)
should contain a detailed list of publications: clearly specifying titles of
publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers, name(s) of co-authors if
any and number of pages. The publications should be categorized into: books,
monographs, chapters in books, refereed and non-refereed journals,
consultancies etc. The CV should also have a detailed list of courses taught
and the levels for which they were taught
