VACANCY NO. ORI 7/2018: PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR RESEARCH SCHOLAR IN INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Applications are invited for the following academic position at the Okavango Research Institute (ORI). The Institute is based in Maun in the North Western part of Botswana and specializes in natural resources management, sustainable natural resource use and conservation in the world famous Okavango Delta and the Kgalagadi (Kalahari) region. The Institute has a good library (a branch of the University library in Gaborone) and excellent research laboratories. The Institute attracts significant international funding and is becoming generally acknowledged as a global research leader in natural resources management. Duties: The successful candidate will conduct research on national and trans-boundary socio-economic, institutional and political processes within the area of environmental management. He/she will also undertake research into socio-political, economic and environmental issues surrounding national and international policies, conventions, agreements and protocols on natural resources management. Research questions might include, inter alia, international waters and benefits sharing, trans-boundary human and animal movements, trans-boundary parks, biodiversity and river basin management.

Requirements:
Professor: Applicants should (i) a Master’s Degree with specialization in International Environmental Policy; (ii) have at least five (5)years of research/teaching experience in a University or comparable institution; (iii) have an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications, with at least forty one (41) publications, twenty one (21) of which should be refereed journal articles; lead and/or single author in at least eighteen (18)  refereed journal articles or book chapters; (iv) the overall profile of research should provide evidence of research mentorship of junior scholars; (v) evidence of service to the University, the Profession and the Community; (vi) evidence of effective academic leadership. Ability to lead collaborative research including multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural teamwork and a relevant PhD will be an added advantage will be added advantage.

Associate Professor: Applicants should hold: (i) a Master’s Degree with specialization in International Environmental Policy; (ii) at least three (3) years research/teaching experience at a University or a comparable institute; (iii) have a good and sustained record of research and publications of at least twenty one (21) publications, fourteen (14) of which should be refereed journal articles or book chapter and should be a lead/or sole author in at least eleven (11) of these; (iv) the overall  profile of research should provide evidence of research mentorship of junior scholars; (v) evidence of service to University, the Profession and the Community; (vi) evidence of effective academic leadership. Ability to lead collaborative research including multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural teamwork; and a relevant PhD will be an added advantage.

Senior Research Scholar: Applicants should hold: (i) a Master’s Degree with specialization in International Environmental Policy; (ii) a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Human Geography, Development Studies, Political Science, Environmental or related fields with at least a 2(i) pass/GPA of at least 3.6; (iii) at least one (1) year research/teaching experience at a university or a comparable institute;  (iv) a cumulative and sustained record of research and have at least ten (10) publications, Seven (7) of which should be refereed journal articles or book chapter and should be a lead/or sole author in at least three (3) of these; (v) evidence of engagement in serviceEvidence of effective academic leadership, ability to lead collaborative research including multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural teamwork and a relevant PhD will be an added advantage will be added advantage.
Research ScholarApplicants should hold: (i) a Master’s Degree with specialization in International Environmental Policy; (ii) a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Human Geography, Development Studies, Political Science, Environmental or related fields with at least a 2(i) pass/GPA of at least 3.6, (iii) show evidence of engagement in research and service. A relevant PhD, research/teaching experience at a University or comparable institution and demonstration of effective academic leadership will be added advantages.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           
N.B. For Professor/Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer positions above, the curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any. Publications should be categorized into: books, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, chapters in books, etc.
