PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To support the Country Director in ensuring safety and security for World Vision staff and programs, promoting effective and efficient documentation, communication and management of security issues that are likely to impact World Vision Sudan (WVS) operations


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Initiate and carry out risk assessments in the country.
  • Develop and review security plans.
  • Implement the minimum Core Security Requirements established by the Corporate Security Office.
  • Organise, implement and follow-up on the promotion of security awareness among national and international staff.
  • Prepare a security-training plan and implement, providing training to national and international staff.
  • Ensure constant field security risk assessments and staff movements are adhered to in accordance with both the CSR as well as local security minimum requirements.
  • Establish networks with other NGO’s and UN agencies regarding security and establish an information exchange network.
  • Maintain contact with Africa Regional Security Advisor and Corporate Security Office regarding national office security strategy and incident reporting.
  • Contact and work closely with the Country Security Committee & Crisis Management Team in situations of increased security risk.
  • Attend security meetings for the country and region.
  • Identify areas of security management requiring external support.
  • Prepare and send incident reports to the Country Director, Regional Security Advisor and the Corporate Security Office.
  • Ensure national office leadership is conversant and compliant with security audit requirements.
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date security and evacuation protocols and arrangements for personnel, major mobile assets, and critical documentation.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of life-support materials including food stocks, water, medicine, blankets, etc in the relevant contexts where and when necessary.
  • Prepare a security orientation document / briefing and ensure all new incoming staff and visitors are briefed upon arrival.
  • Orient / brief national and international staff on any changes in the security situation, security policy, security operational guidelines.
  • Ensure WV security guards are well trained and managed.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Required:
  • University degree from a recognised university.
  • An excellent command of English in both written and oral.
  • Proven security management skills, with emphasis on the unique security requirements of humanitarian aid work.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of NGO/UN field (operations) experience in a security advisory role.
  • Proven experience in setting up and maintaining a security system.
  • Ability to coordinate activities with other agencies, build and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Ability to understand complex security situation and advise program design accordingly.
  • Ability to work under pressure and committed.

    Preferred:
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of NGO/UN field (operations) experience in a security advisory role.
