Mission and objectives
Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the
United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works
closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM
is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all.
It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants. IOM
works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote
international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for
practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian
assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced
people. The IOM Constitution recognizes the link between migration and
economic, social and cultural development, as well as to the right of freedom
of movement. IOM works in the four broad areas of migration management : •
Migration and development • Facilitating migration • Regulating migration •
Forced migration. IOM activities that cut across these areas include the
promotion of international migration law, policy debate and guidance,
protection of migrants' rights, migration health and the gender dimension of
migration.

Task description
Within the delegated authority Clinical and technical
supervision to be provided by Staff Welfare personnel nominated by the Staff
Welfare Officer, Administrative supervision to be provided, when possible, at
the Regional Level. -Establish collaborative working relationships with
counterparts and senior personnel in the respective Regions; -Provide
tele-counseling services in allocated global locations and languages; -Offer
and participate in the preparation of education material and seminars; -Provide
management consultation as needed; -Refer on to Staff Welfare for complex
mental health issues; -Participate in supervision and team meetings; -Be
proactive in reaching out to missions/specific groups of staff -Maintain
confidential records and submit monthly statistics as agreed and end of
assignment report; -Maintain confidentiality and professional practice
standards; -Any other duties as required.

Candidate must be a national of a country other than the
country of assignment.
Requirements
Required experience
5 years of experience in counselling, with experience
in/counselling deep field or in the multilateral sector an asset. Fluent in
English and at least one other language (Spanish, French, English, Portuguese,
Russian, and Arabic).

The Republic of Kenya is an equatorial nation on the coast
of East Africa, neighboring Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, and the
Indian Ocean. Kenya has two levels of Government; National Government and 47
sub-national Governments called Counties. Counties are further divided into
sub-counties. Kenya is a multi-party state with Executive, Legislative, and
Judicial branches. Kenya’s population of more than 40 million is growing at an
annual rate of 2.2%. The country’s GNP per capita estimated at purchasing power
parity (PPP) is $975, and the GNP is growing at an average rate of 0.1%
annually. More than 26% of Kenya’s people live below the international poverty
line of $1 per day. Kenya’s main food crops are “maize, wheat, pulses, roots
and tubers.” (FAO). Nairobi is a modern metropolitan city where most basic
goods and services, health facilities, public transport, telecommunication and
banking services and educational facilities are readily available. The city is
widely connected through its main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
and the smaller Wilson Airport. Air transport is also available to many
up-country destinations. The city is home to some 3,000 UN personnel mainly
attributed to the fact that it serves as the headquarters for both the UN
HABITAT and UNEP. The socio-economic and cultural background of the immediate
society the UNV would be living and working in is diverse and prevailing
security conditions at the place of assignment is modest. The topographic and
climatic features of the assignment location is highland cool and warm tropical
climate.
