VACANCY NO. FE/MSE 1/2016: SENIOR LECTURER IN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING: BIOLOGY,
CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS OR MATHEMATICS EDUCATION - DEPARTMENT OF MATHS AND SCIENCE
EDUCATION (one position)
Duties: The
successful candidate will be expected to lead a team of INSET staff of DMSE for
departmental outreach purposes to: i) Support science, mathematics and computer
teachers; ii) Coordinate the running of INSET activities for Secondary School
science, mathematics and computer education teachers: Such as workshops,
cluster meetings and school-based activities; iii) Coordinate the administrative
activities of the INSET program by liaising with The Head of Department for
Liaison Committee and The HOD and Dean of Education for the Reference
Committee; iii) Facilitate the convening of meetings and work of the
Administrative committees, Liaison and Reference Committees; iv) Liaise with
INSET Coordinator at the Ministry of Education and Skills Development and
facilitate liaison between the HoD DMSE and the Dean of Education with relevant
Ministry of Education and Skills Development Officials; v) Develop and teach
in-services courses for proper development of a professional support for
practicing teachers; vi) Make reports to relevant offices and bodies on agreed
regular intervals as artifacts of progress and evaluation of programs; vii)
Support INSET staff to produce and execute an INSET plan and presents such a
plan to the DMSE Board for consideration and approval; viii) Undertake any
other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department. Requirements:
Candidates should (i) have a minimum of Master’s Degree in
Biology/Chemistry/Physics/Mathematics Education or equivalent; (ii) have a
Bachelor’s degree in Biology/Chemistry/Physics/Mathematics Education with at
least 2(i) pass/GPA of at least 3.6 or equivalent; (iii) have a minimum of
three (3) years of teaching experience at a university or comparable
institution; (iv) a good and sustained record of research and publications with
at least six (6) pieces of published research products, at least 4 of which are
refereed journal articles reflecting a spread of national regional and
international journals and/or publishing outlets; (v) be a lead and/or single
author in at least 2 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (vi)
demonstrate evidence of engagement in service. A relevant PhD and demonstration
of effective academic leadership will be added advantages. The curriculum vitae
(CV) should contain a detailed list of publications; clearly specifying titles
of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of
co-authors if any. Publications should be categorized into: books, monographs,
refereed and non-refereed journals, chapters in books, etc. Remuneration: the
