The New York City Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project
(AVP) is seeking a Part-Time Communications Associate. This is a 20 hour/3 day
a week position, so we are only seeking candidates who are interested in
working part-time, however there is possibility to expand hours in the future.
AVP envisions a world in which all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer
(LGBTQ) and HIVaffected people are safe, respected, and live free from
violence. AVP’s mission is to empower LGBTQ and HIV-affected communities and
allies to end all forms of violence through organizing and education, and
support survivors through counseling and advocacy.
Primary Functions
The Communications Associate is responsible for assisting
AVP’s Communications Director in the key functions of a nonprofit
communications department. The Associate works closely with the Director of
Communications to develop creative, strategic messaging, branding and design
that help make the work of the organization compelling to the audiences we
serve. The Communications Director will work with you to prioritize project
focus, which will include: social media management, website management, graphic
design, metrics reporting and analysis, and administrative duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop
digital assets for the agency, including photo, video, and infographics
for use online that are consistent with the organization's voice and
mission
- Develop
print materials, including the Annual Report, and special event
invitations designed to promote AVP and its work to community members and
donors
- Manage
AVP's website updates and changes
- Maintain
the agency’s ongoing social media editorial calendar and communications
requests across departments
- Produce,
schedule, and post social media content consistent with the organization's
voice and mission
- Live
post to social media accounts from agency events and activities when
needed
- Manage
agency email lists in Vertical Response
- Track
and analyze departmental metrics
- Prepare
departmental reporting information and dashboards
- Other
duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Demonstrated
commitment to AVP’s mission
- Demonstrated
commitment to anti-oppression work, where oppression is a system that
gives some people, groups, or communities power over other people, groups,
or communities because of their identities and experiences.
- The
ability to adjust to new situations, remain flexible in a fast-paced work
environment, and willingness to take the initiative to attempt unfamiliar
tasks are all necessary
- Proficiency
with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Power Point
- Proficiency
with design software and photo editing tools
- Experience
with Social Media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
- Experience
with websites, content management systems, and online fundraising tools
(e.g. Drupal, Salsa, Wordpress, CrowdRise)
- Ability
to write and speak clearly and creatively, as well as strong editing and
proofreading skills Salary DOE. This 20 hr, 3 day/wk PT position. Apply
only if seeking PT employment, however there is possibility to expand
hours in the future.
