VACANCY NO. ORI 1/2014: SENIOR RESEARCH
SCHOLAR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN HYDROLOGY
Duties: The successful candidate will conduct
research focusing on the understanding of various aspects of hydrological
processes in the Okavango Delta, particularly flooding dynamics,
evapotranspiration and vegetation/water relations. This involves the formulation
of broad research programmes, preparation of (successful) research proposals,
organising and conducting field measurement campaigns, design and
implementation of observation networks, analysis and interpretation of data,
and presentation of results in the form of scientific journal articles and oral
presentations to various audiences. The candidate will also be expected to
teach, supervise students and mentoring of junior staff.
Requirements:
Senior Research Scholar: (i) a Master’s Degree
in Hydrology or related field, preferably focusing on wetland hydrology;(ii) a
Bachelor’s Degree in Hydrology, or a related field with at least a 2(i) pass
and an overall aggregate not less than 65%; (iii) at least one year university
(or a comparable institute) teaching experience or equivalent; (iv) a
cumulative and sustained record of research and have at least 10publications, 7 of
which should be refereed journal articles or book chapter and should be a lead/
or sole author in at least 3 of these; (v) show evidence of service
to the university, profession and community; (vi) a PhD focusing on wetland
hydrology, ability to demonstrate effective academic leadership, evidence of
research mentorship of junior scholars as well as experience in wetland
research, preferably focusing on tropical or sub-tropical wetlands and ideally
on southern African wetlands will be added advantages.
Associate Professor Candidate should have: (i) a
Master’s Degree in Hydrology or related field, preferably focusing on wetland
hydrology; (ii) a Bachelor’s Degree in Hydrology, or a related field with at
least a 2(i) pass and an overall aggregate not less than 65%; (iii) at least
three years university (or a comparable institute) teaching experience or
equivalent; (iv) have an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research
and publications, of at least 21 publications, 14 of
which should be refereed journal articles or book chapter and should be a
lead/or sole author in at least 11 of these; (v) the
overall profile of research should provide evidence of research mentorship
of junior scholars; (vi) show evidence of service to the university, profession
and community; (vii) demonstrate effective academic leadership; (viii)
experience in wetland research, preferably focusing on tropical or sub-tropical
wetlands and ideally on southern African wetlands as well as a PhD preferably
focusing on wetland hydrology will be added advantages.
