VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: PROGRAMME OFFICER
(COORDINATION & OUTREACH)
THE AFRICAN UNION (AU), ESTABLISHED AS A UNIQUE PANAFRICAN
CONTINENTAL BODY, IS CHARGED WITH SPEARHEADING AFRICA'S RAPIDINTEGRATION AND
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT BY PROMOTING UNITY, SOLIDARITY,COHESION AND
COOPERATION AMONG THE PEOPLES OF AFRICA AND AFRICAN STATES AS WELLAS
DEVELOPING A NEW PARTNERSHIP WORLDWIDE. ITS HEADQUARTERS IS LOCATED IN
ADDISABABA THE CAPITAL CITY OF ETHIOPIA.
IN SEEKING TO ACHIEVE THIS OBJECTIVE, THE AFRICAN UNION COMMISSION (AUC)INTENDS TO BUILD ITS CAPACITY TO DELIVER, AMONG OTHERS, THE IMPLEMENTATION OFITS ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE BY FILLING UP VACANCIES. 2. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The
incumbentreports to the Head of Coordination and Outreach Division, and
supports thework of the Division in the area of coordination and outreach by
performing thefollowing tasks:
a) Assistingin
providing technical support to the African Union Women's Committee (AUWC);
b) Draftingbackground
documents and reports of the (AUWC);
c) Assistingwith
advocacy activities to mainstream gender and promote women's empowermentin
all organs of the AU, Member States;
d) Assistingwith
education campaigns to disseminate information on AU policies andprogrammes
in the area of gender;
e) Assistingwith
producing and maintaining material for the AU website on African women
andgender issue;
f) Assistingwith
producing and maintaining material for AU website on African women andgender
issue;
g) Assistingin
production of materials for AU website on African women and gender issues;
h) Disseminatinginformation
about activities of Directorate of Women, Gender and Development;
i) Assistingin
the production of periodic reports on the Status of African Women andprogress
towards gender equality in Africa;
j) Assistingin
organizing expert meetings, workshops and panel discussions to
disseminategood practices, lessons learned, emerging issues and trends on the
continent;
k) Assistingin
preparing and implementation plans action, programmes and activities of theDivision;
l) Draftingperiodic
reports of activities of the Division;
m) Performingany
other duties as may be assigned.
3. Educational Qualification and
ExperienceRequired:
Candidate musthave
a Bachelor Degree from recognized University in Social Sciences,
orCommunication, or Policy Studies, or Law, or Development Studies.
Candidatemust have
at least five (5) years of experience in the field of women genderand
development.
4. Other Relevant Skills:
· ICT
skills, especially database development andmanagement;
· Drafting
andcommunication skills;
· Advocacyskills;
· Planning
andorganizational skills.
5. Language Requirement:
Proficiency in one
of the African Union workinglanguages. Knowledge of one or several other
working languages would be anadded advantage.
6. Age Requirement:
Candidates
must preferably be between 25 and 35years old.
7. Tenure of Appointment:
The appointment
will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three(3) years, of with
the first twelve months will be considered as a probationaryperiod.
Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable,subject
to satisfactory performance and deliverables.

Candidatesfrom the
following least represented countries are encouraged to apply:Eretria,
Central African Republic, Cape Verde, Comoros, Congo (DRC),
Djibouti,Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Mauritania, Namibia, Sahrawi Arab
Republic, SaoTomeand Principe, Seychelles and Somalia.

Remuneration::Indicativebasic salary of US$ 29,287.00 per annum
plus other related entitlements e.g. Postadjustment (46% of basic salary),
Housing allowance 14,414.40 perineum),
education allowance (75% oftuition and other education related expenses for
every eligible dependent up toa maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum),
etc for internationallyrecruited staff of the Commission.
