Position Summary
Futures Group is looking for a technical writer and substantive editor for a USAID-funded project on health policy. The incumbent will translate complex health and technical information into useful formats for a variety of audiences. This work will include original writing, but also includes substantial reworking of existing documents often prepared by non-native English-speakers writers and substantive editing to improve organization, coherence, and clarity of messaging in technical works. The position is based in Washington, DC and reports to the Technical Director for Knowledge Management.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide substantive technical writing for materials on a variety of issues relating to HIV, FP/RH, and maternal health in developing countries; materials include project technical reports, policy briefs, case studies, proposals, web content, and other tools and materials
• Conduct original reporting to generate articles for publication in a variety of formats, as above
• Collaborate with subject matter experts to prepare project success stories, policy briefs, research summaries, and factsheets, including writing and design of promotional materials
• Edit wide range of materials to ensure accuracy, correct grammar, and clarity for intended audiences
• Ensure adherence to project formats, branding, and technical review/sensitive language guidelines
• Manage activities as assigned within the project portfolio and provide writing and editing assistance to other projects within the Center for Policy and Advocacy as time and activities warrant

Qualifications
• Master’s Degree and/or work experience in global health, communication, journalism, international development, or related field; familiarity with FP/RH, HIV, and maternal health issues
• Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills
• Ability to manage high volume of editorial work while ensuring quality and accuracy
• Knowledge of USAID strategies, materials, and branding requirements preferred
• Strong MS Word, PowerPoint, and other computer skills
• Ability to work with a range of audiences and partners across countries and cultures
• Fluency/proficiency in a second language relevant to a developing country context highly desirable
