Philani Maternal, Child Health and Nutrition Project is a
community-based child health and nutrition organisation operating in the
informal settlements surrounding Cape Town and in the rural or Thambo district
of the Eastern Cape. The Philani Mentor Mother Programme aims to prevent child
malnutrition and attendant morbidity and mortality. This aim is accomplished
through house-to-house growth monitoring and health education, case follow-up
for pregnant mothers and underweight children, assistance in the acquisition of
government grants and through giving support in and education on the importance
of early childhood development. Our Community Health Care Workers (Mentor
Mothers) also attend to home-based care clients.
Philani is looking to recruit a Programme Manager to take on overall
responsibility for the Mentor Mother Programme, based in Western Cape.
The Programme Manager will be responsible for the successful operation and
management of the Philani Mentor Mother Programme in the Western Cape as
detailed below;
Management of 120 mentor mother’s (Community Healthcare Workers) their
coordinators and programme support staff;
- Ensuring
all Philani management systems and process are running accordingly in the
programme;
- Ensuring
the monitoring and evaluation system is effective and allows for the
accurate reporting of programme outcomes;
- Networking
with stakeholders and partners in order to consolidate and strengthen the
programme while at the same time working towards securing its
sustainability;
- Ensuring
that the programme is delivering against the organisations objectives and
the related results expected by funders;
- Developing
and maintaining links with clinics and hospitals in order to strengthening
the integrated primary health care model;
- Ensuring
that good relations are maintained with community structures at all times.
Requirements:
- Degree
in either health care (dietetics, nursing etc) or public health;
- Experience
in managing community projects and at least five years of management
experience
- Use of
initiative and forward planning;
- Must
show commitment and have a passion for community development;
- Ability
to demonstrate leadership and people management skills;
- Ability
to work well and communicate effectively with a diverse team;
- Must
be organised and proactive.
- Valid
driver’s licence and willingness work within Cape Town’s informal
settlements.
Salary: Negotiable.
