The South African Education and Environment Project (SAEP)
is a nonprofit organisation that works to improve access to and quality of
education for children and young people living in poverty. Through tutoring,
enrichment and support programmes, SAEP gives learners the tools to reach their
potential and uplift their communities.
SAEP seeks to appoint a full-time Arts Outreach Coordinator, based in Cape Town.
The person will run an extra-curricular programme involving music, visual art, photography, drama, dance, film, and creative writing in Philippi high schools.
Responsibilities:

The person will run an extra-curricular programme involving music, visual art, photography, drama, dance, film, and creative writing in Philippi high schools.
Responsibilities:
- Research
and help in designing curriculum and lesson plans for tutors and arts
workshops;
- Plan,
design and implement programme for mid-year holiday arts enrichment camp;
- Plan,
design and implement SAEP Arts Festival in September/October;
- Plan
meetings at schools with Principals and Teachers;
- Recruit
and hire arts tutors;
- Plan
and place tutors at appropriate partner schools;
- Communication
and check-ins with relevant school staff to ensure quality and consistency
in Arts Outreach programme;
- Transport
for arts tutors to partner school for arts workshops;
- Purchase
and distribution of snacks for all Arts Outreach programme workshops;
- Tutor
arts workshops in an arts discipline of his/her expertise;
- Organise
transport, indemnity forms, and snacks for all arts-related excursions;
- Identify
and complete fundraising applications and other fundraising opportunities
for the Arts Outreach programme;
- Identify,
cultivate and general management of Arts Outreach programme partner
organisations and collaborators; and
- Integrate
and implement Arts Outreach programme in other SAEP education programmes,
including SAEP’s early childhood development, hope scholars and bridging
year programmes.
Requirements:
- Interest
and experience in arts;
- Organised,
energetic, positive, and committed to the provision of quality education;
- Minimum
of two to three years experience in administration and educational
programme management, preferably arts administration at an NGO;
- Teaching
experience, preferably at the high school level;
- Experience
working with after-school programmes and school administrations;
- Ability
to manage multiple tutors from a range of different backgrounds and
cultures;
- Communication
and writing skills;
- Leadership
skills;
- Fundraising
and development experience;
- Computer
literacy in Microsoft Office and Internet research;
- Ability
to work in a team and independently;
- Ability
to do occasional evening and weekend work;
- Spoken
and written English. Knowledge of isiXhosa will be an advantage;
- Valid
driver’s licence;
- Administrative
and organisational skills;
- Compilation
of monthly and quarterly reports;
- Develop
resource material i.e. posters, brochures etc;
- Ensure
ongoing meetings with relevant role players (Principals/Tutors/Teachers)
to make performances meet it outcome.
