Description:

Advancing Partners and Communities (APC) is seeking a HIV Stigma & Gender Based Violence Specialist to be based in Georgetown, Guyana. APC is a 5-year USAID-funded project implemented by JSI Research and Training Institute (JSI) and partner FHI 360. APC is designed to support USAID Missions to expand and extend community-based health services, to test and document best practices and models of delivery, and to support global learning. Among its core activities, APC supports partners in innovation and implementation at the country level, and develops platforms that guide implementation of high impact practices (HIP) that are adaptable to specific country and community settings. APC works with non-governmental organization (NGO) networks to build their technical and organizational capacity, provide grants to support implementation, and ensure this implementation follows HIP, proves new approaches, and continues to expand the reach of services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In Guyana, APC will provide grants to NGOs. APC will work with selected grant recipients to improve their ability to manage their respective organizational systems to meet USAID requirements while providing effective HIV services for key populations. The focus of project year one will be to improve the financial system, human resources, and support the monitoring and evaluation system of grantees.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in a relevant social science field (public health, gender and development, sociology, or other relevant social science)
• Two (2) to five (5) or more years of post-graduate relevant organizational or field program experience in HIV is required, inclusive of experience working in the areas of HIV stigma and gender based violence.
• Previous program work and/or research experience in Guyana is required, and candidate should have a working knowledge of community-based organizations in Guyana.
• Experience working with key affected populations including men-who-have-sex-with-men and female sex workers is preferred.
• Experience with monitoring and evaluation, and project management- including facilitating partner and donor relations, report writing, and work planning- is preferred.
• Strong technical skills in HIV stigma and gender based violence with a minimum of two years’ experience in the field of HIV.
• Strong interpersonal, report writing and oral communications skills.
• Sound understanding of program design, development, management, implementation approaches, and monitoring and evaluation principles
• Demonstrated experience in designing and/or conducting trainings
• Experience providing capacity building support
• Excellent oral and written English communication skills
• Must be eligible to work in Guyana


Salary commensurate with experience.
