FACULTY OF MEDICINE
VACANCY NO. FM/EM 1/2018: LECTURER IN THE DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY MEDICINE (2 positions)

Duties: The successful candidates will teach undergraduates and graduate students, conduct research and provide clinical care in affiliated hospitals. Consideration for appointment will take into account relevant qualifications, teaching, clinical and research experience.

Requirements: to qualify for appointment as a lecturer the applicant must have: i) Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medicine (MBBS) or MD and formal qualification in Emergency Medicine with at least a 2(i) pass/GPA of at least 3.6 or equivalent; (ii) Evidence of engagement in research and service. University teaching experience or equivalent would be an added advantage. For candidates to be considered for appointment they must undergo and pass a registration examination with the Botswana Health Professions Council.

VACANCY NO. FE/PE 2/2018: SENIOR LECTURER IN SPORTS MANAGEMENT & ADMINISTRATION, DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Duties: The successful candidate is expected to: (i) teach Sports Management and Administration courses at Undergraduate and Graduate levels and supervise research, dissertations and practicum; (ii) participate in all academic and professional activities of the Department including research and curriculum review; (iii) teach practical physical education classes; (iv) carry out any other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements: Applicants should have: (i) at least a Masters’ Degree in ­ Sports Management & Administration or related discipline; (ii) a Bachelors’ Degree in Physical Education or related discipline with at least a 2(i) pass/GPA of at least 3.6 or equivalent; (iii) at least years of teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iv) a good and sustained record of relevant research and publications with at least 6 publications; 4 of which are peer reviewed journal articles reflecting a spread of national regional and international journals and/or publishing outlets; (v) lead and/or single author in at least refereed journal articles or book chapters; (vi) applicants should demonstrate evidence of engagement in service. A relevant PhD and demonstration of effective academic leadership will be added advantages.

Duties: The successful candidates will be expected to: (i) teach undergraduate level courses in sports sciences (ii) teach practical courses at the undergraduate level (iii) supervise undergraduate projects (iv) participate in supervision of undergraduate teaching practice (v) participate in all academic and professional activities of the department including community and outreach services and (vi) carry out all other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements: Candidates must have (i) a Master’s degree in Sports Science; (ii) a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or related field with at least a 2(i) class or GPA of at least 3.6 from the University of Botswana or other recognized equivalent institutions; (iii) Evidence of engagement in research and service.  A PhD in related area would be added advantages.

Duties:  The successful candidate will be required to: (i)  coordinate and provide guidance in processes and procedures of student assessment, including setting and administration of assignments, tests, examinations and computing results;  (ii)  monitor student’s performance and provide remedial support;  (iii) organise training sessions/workshops for part-time lecturers/tutors and markers; (iv)  maintain accurate student record system;  (v)  conduct evaluation of short courses, distance education and public education programmes;  (vi)  carry out research and evaluation in tutorial and assessment processes and procedures in the Centre for Continuing Education.

Requirements:  Applicants should have: (i) at least a Masters’ Degree in Educational Measurement and Evaluation or related fields; (ii) a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related fields with at least a 2(i) pass/ GPA of at least 3.6; (iii) show evidence of engagement in research and service; (iv) proficiency in electronic data management software; v) the following will be added advantages: at least three years’ experience in the management of student assessment in a tertiary institution; a relevant PhD, teaching experience at a University or comparable institution and demonstration of effective academic leadership. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the management of learner support services for part-time/distance education and other continuing learners.
