Mission and objectives
UNESCO’s mission is to contribute to the building of a
culture of peace, the eradication of poverty, sustainable development, and
intercultural dialogue through its mandates: education, the sciences, culture,
communication, and information. UNESCO Multisectoral Regional Office in Jakarta
(also “UNESCO Jakarta”) covers all UNESCO mandates and is responsible for the
implementation of related programmes in Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia,
the Philippines, and Timor Leste. Closely with partnership with Governments,
National Commissions and other governmental and non-governmental partners,
UNESCO Jakarta works on making development sustainable and profitable for
everyone, and focuses on a number of overarching objectives: Attaining quality
education for all and lifelong learning Mobilizing science knowledge and policy
for sustainable development Addressing emerging social and ethical challenges
Fostering cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue, and a culture of peace
Building inclusive knowledge societies through information and communication
Context
Under the overall supervision of the Director, and the
direct supervision of the Social and Human Sciences (SHS) Programme Specialist
(PS), the UNV will support the SHS portfolio in intercultural dialogue, youth
engagement and peacebuilding. The incumbent will work closely with other team
members to support projects undertaken by SHS whilst seeking synergies across
activities as well as new opportunities for collaboration with external
partners.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist for
Social and Human Sciences the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
Assist the SHS Unit in planning, managing, implementing, monitoring, and
reporting on key programme/project activities in the areas of intercultural
dialogue, youth engagement and peacebuilding. Proactively and in a
self-directed manner conduct research on potential partners and co-designers as
part of the collaborative process leading to the development of project
proposals. Assist Unit in liaising with national stakeholders to facilitate
effective delivery of projects and activities. Assist dissemination of
information on SHS initiatives to ensure project visibility; extend, engage,
and reinforce networks, engage new and diverse stakeholders, and foster partnerships.
Assist in drafting of memos, reports, and other project related and
administrative correspondence. Attends meetings and take minutes in technical
group as requested by the PS and/or Director. Perform any other administrative
and project related duties as deemed necessary by immediate supervisor or the
Director of UNESCO Jakarta Office.

This assignment is funded by the Kingdom of Saudia Arabia
and only nationals of that country are eligible to apply. You may apply to a

Requirements
Required experience
1 years of experience in (minimum three months): Research
and analysis, Concept note writing, Event coordination and facilitation. Basic
understanding of development sector project management and previous experience
as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer
work, internship) would be highly regarded; Knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia,
Bahasa Melayu, Tetum or Portuguese would be an advantage but not expected.

Living conditions and remarks
The position will be based in the Jakarta, capital of
Indonesia and home to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)
Secretariat, where basic living needs, including accommodation, banking
facilities, medical facilities and telecommunications/internet services are
readily available. All staple foods such as rice, bread, meat, vegetables,
fruits, salt, sugar, cooking oil, etc. can be found in the markets, along with
basic hygiene products and household supplies, including variety of imported
goods. Almost all items can also be ordered for delivery (from grocery to
cooked food to household essentials) through various mobile applications.
Jakarta has numerous good restaurants as well as plenty of attractive malls and
shopping centres, making it one of the most vibrant cities to live in
South-East Asia. Jakarta’s climate is generally hot and humid, with the
Indonesian wet and dry seasons dividing the year in two. Average temperature is
in the upper 30°C range year-round, and the rainy season lasts between November
and March. The most used means of transportation are taxi or local bus. Mobile
phone is the most reliable tool to communicate, and internet services are
readily available at the apartment complexes. ATMs are located on every other
street in Indonesia and international cards can usually be used to withdraw
Indonesian Rupiah.
