Job Description

The UNDP Projects Management Office (PMO) in Nicosia, Cyprus, seeks to contract
for the project support to the Committee on Missing Persons
in Cyprus (CMP) a Gardening and Maintenance technician.
The principal mandate of the CMP is to establishthe fate of the people who
went missing as a consequence of the
events of 1963-1964 and 1974 and to provide answers to anguished families. One
important aspect of the CMP operation is to exhume, identify and return
the remains of missing persons. This process enables the relatives
of the missing persons to receive the remains of their loved ones,
arrange for a dignified burial and obtain closure after a long period of
anguish and uncertainty. The CMP project is implemented via bi-communal teams
of Cyprtiot scientists and professionals.
The CMP Project includes five main phases, namely
investigation, excavation, anthropological analysis, genetic testing, matching
and identification as well as the psychosocial support to the families of the
missing and the return of remains after an identification.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provision of efficient gardening and landscaping services at CMP
Anthropological laboratory (CAL):
- Maintaining
garden and landscape
- Watering
plants/flowers (both indoors and outdoors)
- Maintenance/cleaning/monitoring
and ensuring the efficient running of the water irrigation pipe system at
the CAL premises
- Monitoring
the health of all plants and garden areas
- Watering
and feeding of plants with nutritional supplements (fertilizer etc)
- Trimming
trees and shrubs
- Weeding
gardens and the CAL landscape
- Keeping
green spaces and walkways clear of debris and litter
Provision of maintenance servicesat CMP Anthropological
laboratory (CAL):
- Handling
minor maintenance works (e.g. changing light globes, opening drain
blockage, removing the windows for cleaning, minor repairs)
- Inspecting
the premises for faults and reporting the need for minor repairs to the
Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator
- Listing/monitoring
maintannce/handyman services required at CAL and report to Health, Safety
and Environmental Coordinator and Laboratory Coordinators
- Disposing
of all excess materials at specifically designated collection areas
- Performing
basic building tasks including painting, the filling of crevices and
managing maintenance repairs
- Detecting
and reporting the need for major maintenance requests in a timely and
professional manner
- Maintaining
the cleanliness of outside spaces such as parking lots and sidewalks and
emptying the trash bins when the cleaner is absent
- Assisting
with other logistic operations as required by the Health, Safety and
Environmental Coordinator and Laboratory Coordinators
- Supervising/coordinating
the facility’s repairs and activity of contractor’s work performed at the
CAL premises
- Driving
to undertake specific maintenance tasks and picking up of supplies (e.g.
purchasing of supplies)
- Assisting
with carrying heavy materials (e.g. moving furniture on occasions)
Facilitation of knowledge building and management:
- Participation
in training for the staff relevant to the duties.
