LECTURER IN PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE

The University of Botswana is introducing a Bachelor’s degree in Portuguese Language and Lusophone Studies, therefore the Faculty of Humanities is looking for a lecturer qualified to teach Portuguese Language and Lusophone culture and Literature.

Duties: The successful candidate will teach European Portuguese as a foreign language. She/he will also be expected to produce didactic material and examine students in all levels that are offered by LAPE (Language Centre of Certification and Evaluation in Portuguese as a foreign language). In addition, the appointee shall perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department.

Qualifications: Applicants must be holders of at least a (i) Master’s degree in Portuguese Studies or Master’s degree in teaching Portuguese as a Foreign/Second Language or an equivalent programme; (ii) a Bachelor’s degree Level in which Portuguese Studies was a major with at least 2 (i) pass/GPA of at least 3.6; (iii) show evidence of engagement in research and service; (iv)  the following will be added advantages; (a) Post-Graduate Diploma in Teaching Portuguese as a Foreign/Second Language and or a PhD in a relevant field; (b) teaching experience at a University or comparable institution and demonstration of effective academic leadership; (c) Candidates should have Portuguese native speaker fluency or have C1 level (according to The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) in European Portuguese and have a working knowledge of English; (d) the successful candidate must be able to teach European Portuguese Language and Culture; (e) at least three years of experience in teaching European Portuguese as a Foreign/Second Language.
