The Department of Media Studies wishes to appoint staff at any of the ranks specified below.
Duties: 
The successful candidate would be responsible for teaching courses on two Undergraduate degrees in Media Studies from a selection of the following: mass communication theory, media management, gender representation, media history, media monitoring, media sociology, media and development, media law, media ethics, cinema, communication research methods, and dissertation supervision.
It would be a strong advantage if s/he could also teach practical aspects of one or more of the following: print journalism, radio, television, film and video, digital media, audio technology and / or public relations. The candidate would be expected to contribute to the academic standing and good reputation of the Department of Media Studies by engaging in research, publications and external professional activities.

Requirements: 
Professor: Candidates should have (i) A Masters degree in Media Studies, journalism or a related field; (ii) at least 8 years university teaching experience or equivalent, preferably including post-graduate teaching; (iii) a cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least 24 pieces of published research products in Media or related subjects, at least 12 of which are refereed journal articles reflecting a spread of national regional and international journals and/or publishing outlets; lead and/or single author in at least 10 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (iv) a proven record of academic leadership; (v) evidence of service to the university, the profession and the community. A relevant PhD will be an added advantage; the ability to attract funding from international sources will also be an added advantage.

Associate Professor: Candidates should have (i) A Masters degree in Media Studies, journalism or a related field; (ii) at least 5 years university teaching experience or equivalent, preferably including post-graduate teaching; (iii) a cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least 12 pieces of creative or published research products in Media or related subjects; at least 8 of which are refereed journal articles reflecting a spread of national regional and international journals and/or publishing outlets; lead and/or single author in at least 6 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (iv) a proven record of academic leadership; (v) evidence of service to the university, the profession and the community. A relevant PhD will be an added advantage; the ability to attract funding from international sources will also be an added advantage.

Senior Lecturer: Applicants should have: (i) at least a Masters’ Degree in ¬ Media Studies or related fields; (ii) a relevant Bachelors’ Degree with at least a 2(i) pass/GPA of at least 3.6 on a 5-point scale; (iii) at least 3 years of teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iv) a good and sustained record of research and publications with at least 6 publications, 4 of which are peer reviewed journal articles reflecting a spread of national regional and international journals and/or publishing outlets;; (v) lead and/or single author in at least 2 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (vi) applicants should demonstrate evidence of engagement in service; (vii) a relevant PhD and demonstration of effective academic leadership will be added advantages.

Background: 
A research and development consultant is required to conduct an assessment of national public health research and development capacity. The purpose of this assessment is to examine Ministry of Health and Wellness and its key partners’ current capacity to conduct national and district-level research, and the extent of translation of research to policy, so that gaps can be identified and addressed to ultimately enhance evidence-based policy and effective planning. The consultancy will be conducted via field assessment of research capacities and capabilities within MoHW central and five district facilities as well as identified key stakeholders. Institutional research capacity, including partnership and collaboration, between research organizations and MoHW will be examined as part of the consultancy. The consultant will produce a consolidated report of the findings and recommendations, and debriefing with DHMTs.

Duties: 
The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) Lead stakeholder analysis exercise to identify potential partners for public health research, (ii) Facilitate pre-assessment stakeholder briefing workshop to ensure active involvement of key stakeholders, (iii) Develop data collection tools, (iv) Conduct and manage data collection activities, including key informant interviews and field assessments (at least 5 districts), (v) Manage and maintain quality database, (vi) Participate in a stakeholder workshop to share findings, gain stakeholder inputs and develop action plan to address gaps, (vii) Prepare report and out-brief on assessment findings and recommendations based on findings, (viii) Prepare stakeholder workshop proceedings report to reflect assessment findings and draft action plan working with MoHW

  • Experience working in public health landscape in sub-Saharan Africa

The CEO approves and owns the short and medium term budget and is accountable for the delivery thereof. He\She is responsible for regulatory compliance and for governmental and key stakeholder relationships while being the key interface between the Board and Management as well as between BML and the company.  Performs supervisory duties of executive staff, coordinates staff for coverage in all divisions.

  1. STRATEGIC INITIATIVES
Strategy Development
  • Establishes effective strategies to develop new business opportunities through the engagement of new business contacts.
  • Responsible for executing all Board approved plans and strategies
  • Lead the Company’s  product and service development  to establish Bayport as a leading financial service provider in country
  • Ensures the development and pursuit of effective marketing strategies to create a strong brand image for the Company. Ensuring the design and implementation of products and services to better position the Company.
  • Remains up-to-date regarding trends and conditions of the business environment and general micro and unsecured lending trends.
  • Responsible for the execution of strategic and tactical projects conceived and designed to achieve organisational strategies and business plans.

Community Development
  • Serves as a visible and active community leader, who is passionate about the community they serve and recognizes opportunities where community-based lending and products can help.
  • Participates in community and business functions/groups to ensure a positive image for the Company within the region’s marketplace, and to establish referral contacts within the community.

2.                   OPERATIONAL
Business planning
  • Leads and coordinates the development of the business plan and the associated budget, aligned with the agreed strategy, with input from the Executive Chairman and functional managers
  • Responsible for the on-going monitoring and reporting to Group on business progress against budget
  • Fund Raising
  • Sources local currency funding through local and international funders.

Financial
  • Manages the Company’s overall performance to include profitable revenue growth, effective risk management and compliance strategies and performance and a strong customer satisfaction orientation.
  • Prepares and presents of the annual budget.
  • Analyses and is accountable for the financial model (forecast).
  • Ensures that the operations of the Company achieve the budget and strategic goals set for each year.
  • The CEO will be one of the authorised signatory’s required for the purpose of authorising EFT’s that require two signatories in order to simplify the operations of the Company.

Reporting
  • Reports on company performance to the board of directors, investors, press and statutory bodies
  • Produces a monthly operational report on the financial and operational status of the business

3.                   PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
  • Works with the Company’s management teams to establish annual performance goals, allocate resources, assess annual performance, determining and recommending individual merit, incentive, and/or promotional increases.
  • Leads, develops and maintains a strong Executive team
  • Manages the human resource asset and fosters the development of a working environment of high ethical standards and high personnel morale as well as mutual respect, understanding, trust and cooperation among all staff

4.                   STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
  • Supports and collaborates with the Board of Directors in developing a well-functioning and engaged board.

Engage in the following forums:
  • The CEO will report to the Board of Directors via the Executive Chairperson.
  • The CEO will chair the Management Committee meetings
  • The CEO will be invited to present and participate in Board meetings.
  • The CEO will be invited to present and participate in the Credit Committee and Audit Committee.
  • The CEO will represent the Company in the monthly management account review with Group Regional Executive
  • The CEO will be invited to present and participate in the monthly credit review with Group
  • The CEO will be the primary interface with BML and BIGS via the BML Regional Executive

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
Requierements 
  • Solid understanding of credit, risk management and compliance requirements
  • 5-7 years business development experience
  • Advanced knowledge of retail lending operations, industry, products or services
  • Advanced knowledge of Financial Services compliance regulations, law, employment and labour law, internal operational policies and procedures, and micro lending products and services

Industry knowledge
  • 10-15 years Financial Services experience with least 5 in Executive roles
