The Companies and
Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA), is an autonomous body that has been
established in terms of the Companies and Intellectual Property Authority Act
no 14 of 2011. The Authority is charged with the responsibility of implementing
four different acts, namely: The Companies Act, Registration of Business Names
Act, Industrial Property Act and the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act.
The Authority is
positioning itself for the advancement of its mandate and is searching for some
dynamic individual to take up the above position within the Compliance Awareness
and Clients Services division reporting to the Director Compliance Awareness
and Clients Services:
Main purpose of the job
To put in place effective compliance strategies to address
non- conformity to all pieces of legislation under CIPA. To enhance delivery of
compliance initiatives for improved company and business registry status as
well as intellectual property protection measures. To liaise with other law
enforcement agencies for effective delivery of enforcement initiatives.
Qualifications, experience and knowledge required
- LLB,
     Bachelor’s Degree, Social Sciences, Arts OR any other related programme.
 - Eight
     (8) years post qualification experience in compliance & enforcement
     environment of which three (3) should have been served in a managerial
     position.
 - Experiential
     knowledge in Compliance & Enforcement and working knowledge and
     experience in prosecutions.
 
Key responsibilities
- Demonstrate
     advanced knowledge of all four acts governing the operations of CIPA.
 - Assist
     law enforcement officers by giving them advice regarding intellectual
     property/Companies/Business names laws.
 - Conduct
     periodic internal reviews or audits to ensure that compliance procedures
     are followed.
 - Conduct
     or direct the internal investigation of compliance activities.
 - Maintain
     documentation of compliance activities, such as complaints received or
     investigation outcomes.
 - Consult
     with legal department as necessary to address difficult legal compliance
     issues.
 - Discuss
     emerging compliance issues with management or employees.
 - Advice
     internal management or business partners on the implementation or
     operation of compliance programs.
 - Provide
     employee training on compliance related topics, policies, or procedures.
 - Prepare
     management reports regarding compliance operations and progress.
 - Report
     violations of compliance or regulatory standards to duly authorised
     enforcement agencies as appropriate or required.
 - Design
     or implement improvements in communication, monitoring, or enforcement of
     compliance standards.
 - Direct
     the development or implementation of compliance-related policies and
     procedures throughout an organisation.
