The organization
The Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID) is
an international feminist organization working to strengthen the voice, impact
and influence of women's rights advocates, organizations and movements
internationally.
The Production team coordinates the majority of translations
for all the programmatic and logistical areas of the
organization. Translation Consultants provide translations, and comments
for proofreading (where applicable) on specified text, within the agreed upon
timeframe.
The Translation Consultant can work from anywhere in the
world with access to internet. There is no guaranteed minimum amount of work;
documents come on an as-needed basis, ranging from several documents a week to
only a couple per month. When translation services are required, the
Translation Consultant will be contacted by email with the document, the word
count, and a deadline at which point the consultant will either accept or
reject the job. This process will be followed for each translation job.
Consultants will be paid by cheque or wire transfer monthly or bi-monthly.
Qualifications:
Experience
Over three years experience:
- translating
documents and publications from English to Brazilian Portuguese
- with
non-profit and/or civil society organization language and terminology
- in
women's rights, human rights, development and/or gender equality
Expertise & Skills
- Excellent
written and verbal communication skills in English and Brazilian
Portuguese
- English/Portuguese
Translation skills, specifically of human and women rights
terminology
- Keen
attention to detail and quality control
- Excellent
organizational skills
- Ability
to multi-task and willing to meet tight deadlines
- Able
to work independently with minimal supervision
- High
levels of initiative, creativity, and self-motivation
Other Requirements:
- Flexibility
to work occasional evenings and weekends in weeks and days
- A
passion for women’s and human rights issues
- Committed
to the principles and values of feminism, anti-discrimination and
anti-racism
