Promundo-US, an international non-governmental organization
working to promote gender equality, seeks a full-time Research Assistant or
Associate to work in its Washington, DC office.
About Promundo
Founded in Brazil in 1997, Promundo works internationally to
engage men and boys in advancing gender equality and preventing violence.
Promundo's independently registered NGOs in the United States, Brazil,
Portugal, and Rwanda collaborate to conduct high-quality formative,
population-based research; develop and conduct impact evaluations; scale-up
gender-transformative interventions; and carry out national and international
advocacy to achieve gender equality and prevent violence. Promundo is also the
co-founder of the MenEngage Alliance, a global network of NGOs and UN agencies
working to engage men and boys in gender equality. Promundo-US, a separate
legal entity, with its office in Washington, DC, coordinates technical
assistance outside of Brazil, carries out advocacy globally, supports
Promundo's activities and fundraising across offices, and co-coordinates the
global MenCare Campaign.
About the Position
The Research Assistant/Associate will report to Ruti Levtov,
Program Officer based in Washington, DC, and will work with a dynamic team of
about 15 staff plus consultants. The position is full time and includes health
insurance, paid leave, and retirement benefits. Salary is $45,000-50,000 per
annum, depending on salary history and experience. Both title and salary are
commensurate with experience and qualifications. Candidates should have a
strong research background with experience managing, analyzing, and writing
about quantitative data, as well as an interest in international development,
public health, and gender. Proposed starting date is April 11, 2016.
Job Duties
- Assist
Promundo program and research staff in planning and carrying out
quantitative and qualitative research on gender, masculinities, health,
and similar topics.
- Assist
staff in providing technical assistance primarily related to the
International Men and Gender Equality Survey (IMAGES) study.
- Retrieve,
manage, clean, and organize multiple datasets; serve as a resource for
staff seeking access and information from the datasets.
- Create
variables and scales and perform descriptive and inferential statistical
analysis, using Stata, on Promundo's survey and program evaluation data.
- Provide
support to partners on Promundo's analysis methods.
- Contribute
to/draft reports, briefs, blogs, and journal articles based on
quantitative and qualitative data for both research and non-research
audiences.
- Contribute
to questionnaire development, formatting, or programming, as needed.
- Conduct
literature searches and retrieve articles and reports, summarize existing
research, and contribute to literature reviews and other desk research.
- Contribute
to grant proposals and project reports.
- Other
duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Master's
degree or undergraduate degree focused on quantitative research methods
(e.g. statistics, economics).
- Experience
managing and analyzing quantitative datasets, including cleaning and
merging, creating variables, descriptive analysis, and multivariate
regression and other analysis models.
- Experience
producing descriptive and analytical statistical tables and graphs.
- Experience
interpreting and writing reports based on quantitative data.
- Experience
using Stata.
- Strong
attention to detail.
- Personal
characteristics: Hard worker and multi-tasker, quick learner, flexible,
honest and reliable, and in possession of a sense of humor.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience
with factor analysis, data imputation, and writing for publication
strongly preferred.
- Experience
with research design, including questionnaire development.
- Experience
working with web-based research tools and libraries (e.g. Zotero).
- Experience
working with and analyzing demographic surveys.
- Knowledge
and interest in qualitative research methods.
- Knowledge
of gender and social justice issues.
- Second
language skills – Portuguese, Spanish, or French preferred.
