Key Purpose
The Solution Architect SNR is responsible for architecting solutions that enable IS to deliver sustainable systems and services which meet strategic and operational objectives of business
Financial
-Architect solutions that have a business case and align to
business and IS strategies
Customer
-Manage stakeholder expectations by applying appropriate
Engen governance aligned with business planning, solution
architecture and budgeting practices and processes
Process
-Perform the necessary leadership, analysis and design tasks
related to the development of solution architecture for
business requirements.
People
-Achieve milestones in terms of personal development
-Develop good relationships with key stakeholders

Key Responsibilities
Financial
-Create financially and practically feasible solutions
-Create understanding of relevant strategy, architecture and
governance of business functional area with IS and IT
management and other specialists and appropriate
business stakeholders.
Customer
-Apply appropriate Engen governance including use of the
Architecture Review Board, the IS Investment committee and
the Business Unit and IS demand planning committees to
ensure stakeholders expectations are managed
-Ensure solutions are aligned with business planning and
strategies
-Ensure solutions comply with Engen budgeting practices
and processes
Process
-Understand, advocate and augment the principles of
information technology strategies.
-Analyse enterprise business drivers to determine
corresponding change requirements.
-Analyse the IT environment to detect critical deficiencies,
and recommend solutions for improvement.
-Analyse technology industry and market trends, and
determine their potential impact on the enterprise.
-"Sell" the architecture process, its outcome and ongoing
results.
-Apply appropriate IT governance including use of the
Architecture Review Board to guide solution decisions.
-Lead the architecting of solutions based on business
requirements and IT strategies.
-Ensure appropriate architecture governance activities are
followed.
-Develop and maintain capability maps for targeted business
functional areas that include application and initiative
roadmaps.
-Coordinate solution architecture creation and modification
activities.
-Facilitate the evaluation and selection of appropriate
architecture patterns for solutions.
-Consult with application, data/information, infrastructure
and security domain architects to ensure solutions align
with domain architectures and identify when it is necessary
to adapt the solution architecture.
-Identify the organizational impact (for example, on skills,
processes, structures or culture) and financial impact of the
solution.
-Ensure solution architecture design and analysis work is
appropriately documented.
-Align with the enterprise portfolio office (EPO) and IS project
office as appropriate for delivery of solutions.
-Regularly assess the functions and capabilities of new
technologies and where appropriate recommend how to
apply them effectively to address business needs.

-Coach and mentor peers as appropriate

and within IS and business

Specific Outcomes
Education & Experience
IS/IT Honours, MBA, Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, systems analysis or a related study
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
-Knowledge of all components of solution architecture.
-Experience with enterprise integration tools and extract,
transformation and load (ETL) tools
-Should have participated in, and be familiar with, agile (e.g.
Scrum) and traditional methodologies and practices
-Knowledge of business process management principles and
processes.
-Strong knowledge of current technologies e.g. Cloud
-Ability to understand the business requirements and
convert them into solution designs.
-Ability to translate business needs into solution architecture
requirements.
-Ability to estimate the financial impact of solution
architecture alternatives.
-Ability to apply multiple technical solutions to business
problems.
-Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities
of new technologies.
-Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork,
facilitation and negotiation.
-Candidate must be organized and able to handle multiple
priorities.
-Ability to understand the long-term ("big picture") and

to delivering software that optimizes architecture activities
