Key Purpose
Produce a demand plan for selected areas/groups that reflects the predicted future product requirements obtained from Sales staff and/or key customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce Base forecast
- Obtain & capture predicted future demand (monthly basis)
- Produce final forecast and obtain sign-off
- Communicate forecast
- Monitor and improve forecasting accuracy

Specific Outcomes
- Extract and review historic/actual sales versus previous
forecasts as per demand planning hierarchy
- Normalise history (Review and normalise historical data e.g.
delete past promotions that no longer impact the future
- Ensure appropriate statistical forecasting models &
methods are used for each forecasting level as per demand
planning hierarchy, and configure the system accordingly
(e.g. customer, product or plant level)
- Run base forecast
- Interact with relevant role-players (e.g. Sales & Marketing,
key customers) to discuss history vs. plans, and obtain
marketing intelligence on future events and assumptions
that may impact demand:
o new product introductions
o price increases or decreases
o product withdrawal or obsolescence
o promotions and incentives
o other business events that may impact demand
- Adjust the base forecast with the predicted demand
received from the market
- Document key assumptions and information relating to
future demand forecasts received from Sales/Customers
- Sanity check: Review final demand plan and make necessary
adjustments if necessary
- Obtain approval from key role-players on final demand
plan when necessary
- Upload the final demand plan to SAP core system
- Communicate & discuss forecast with Team Leader:
Demand Planning
- Share forecast with relevant Sales staff & key customers
- Provide input on demand forecast to monthly SOP meeting
if required
- Extract and provide reports on the demand plan as required
- Review past forecast performance
- Track volume progress versus assumptions
- Review and resolve errors and exceptions
- Perform reasonability checks at a detailed and aggregate
level
- Determine if there are key assumptions or market drivers
that are not reflected in the statistical forecast. If yes, then
modify the forecast
- Generate forecast accuracy reports
- Analyse forecast accuracy reports
- Develop accuracy improvement plan
- Take the necessary actions/steps to improve forecasts

Education & Experience
Matric and or Equivalent
Apics CPIM
3 years experience required in a forecasting/demand planning role
Indepth knowledge of Supply Chain principles
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
Knowledge; Skills & Attributes:
- A high degree of quantitative & analytical skills, with a good
statistical background and a working knowledge of the
appropriate forecasting systems & tools
- In depth knowledge of forecasting principles.
- In depth knowledge of Supply Chain principles.
- Working knowledge of SAP PP/MM/SD/TD/APO
- Analytical
- Attention to detail
- Process thinker
- Communicates well, orally and via written media
- Team player
