The University of Botswana (www.ub.bw) is the largest and most prestigious institution of higher learning in the country. The Faculty of Medicine, the newest faculty of the University, has vacancies of Assistant Programme Directors in the following Departments;


·         Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine
·         Family Medicine
·         Obstetrics and Gynaecology
·         Pathology
·         Radiology
·         Surgery

 Main purpose of the job: To assist the Head of the Department in implementing the education of undergraduate and postgraduate students and of medical interns in teaching hospitals as well as public clinics.

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to (i) Provide patient care and teaching in the area of specialty (ii) Assist the Head of Department in academic staff recruitment (iii) Work with the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, hospital (Ministry of Health) clinical staff, Head of Department  and Hospital Superintendent to set priorities in education, recruitment and infrastructure enhancement (iv) Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of academic programmes.

Qualifications:  Applicants should have a minimum of: (i) Medical degree (MBBS, MBChB, MD or equivalent) (ii)Specialization in one of the disciplinary areas of the Department   (iii) At least ten years of post-specialization experience (vi) Substantial track record of teaching and supervision of undergraduate and/or post-graduate students(v) Evidence of achievement in teaching, research and clinical engagement.

Experience: Experience in working in a resource-limited setting and in management in an academic institution or hospital department will be added advantages.

Remuneration: The University offers competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
