Description

Purpose of Job:
  • Responsible to plan, install, maintain, customize and configure UNIX operating systems, related software and hardware as guided by business requirements.
  •  Required to perform problem determination diagnostics and find tactical solutions as a means to solve UNIX system failures and faults, as well as business technology solutions.
  •  Responsible to actively interface and participate in all assigned technology and business projects, problems and changes related to UNIX, as well as create new, maintain existing and publish documentation and processes on the UNIX SharePoint
  • The individual will be required to work closely with engineering, solution designers and project delivery teams to provide technical solutions and designs as well as implement and support the technical solutions on the UNIX platform.
  • Skills transfer and knowledge sharing with regional and global technology partners re Database, Storage, Applications and Network Specialists to support the global Distributed Technology estate and strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate and approve new infrastructure designs and changes to current infrastructure elements for UNIX
  • Participate in all project definition, scoping and planning workshops and provide specialized technical input into the design process
  • Implement and complete all UNIX related changes in the agreed timeframes whilst ensuring compliance to all change control management requirements
  • Resolve problems regarding UNIX implementations, performance, capacity, delays, quality, timelines and cost
  • Research trends in the industry and ensure alignment between business and GTIS through the development plan
  • Liaise with vendors and conduct maintenance on the UNIX relevant systems and hardware to ensure the estate always operates on supported level.
  • Develop and maintain the integrity of the processes
  • Investigate and document the root cause analysis, action plans to address the problems and communicate these to all affected stakeholders
  • Transfer and share expert technical knowledge to colleagues and update the knowledge database
  • Conduct Disaster Recovery(DR) tests for all UNIX systems to prove the recoverability within the Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO)
  • Ensure alignment of the DR plan with any changes in the services setup or infrastructure and architecture strategy
  • Ensure business continuity for all UNIX systems by successfully conducting backup and restore tests according to the procedures relevant to the platform concerned
  • Adhere to all stipulated compliance policies, as well as any regulatory and legislative requirements which relate to business, fiscal and government practices
  • Adhere to all GTIS processes, procedures and standards, and escalate any concerns to the relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure that all applications that are used on the UNIX platform are correctly licensed during the solution design time, configuration changes and also with licence reviews or audits
  • Monitor all UNIX installations to ensure that they are implemented according to Architectural standards and that they are done within the agreed timeframe
  • Monitor all UNIX critical components and services on a continual basis
  • Manage the systems lifecycle for UNIX systems on a continual basis
  • Utilise capacity management procedures to maintain uninterrupted service delivery
  • Propose options to meet client requirements and prepare cost/benefit analyses, along with designs and model for the client to evaluate. This may include evaluation of package solutions and/ or interfaces to existing Bank systems or evaluation of new and upgraded products or services
  • React quickly and as necessary to live systems errors and service problems to limit downtime and resolve

Essential/Basic Qualifications

  • (5) years’ experience and exposure to the Banking/ ICT Industry
  • Good understanding of ITIL processes and associated concepts.
  • (3) years’ experience in a high degree of commercial awareness with sound understanding of key contractual obligations and risks to maximize benefits
  • (3) Years’ experience in understanding the concepts of service delivery and support.
  • (3) Years’ experience in operating with highly demanding clients.
