Tshikululu Social Investments: Head of Risk Management Services

Tshikululu Social Investments NPC is South Africa’s premier social investment agency, managing social investment funds for large and medium-sized businesses, charitable and philanthropic trusts, and broad-based community development trusts. Tshikululu works in the fields of education, health, social development, and enterprise development.

Tshikululu Social Investments seeks to appoint a Head of Risk Management Services, based in Johannesburg.

The Head of Risk Management Services is required to oversee and manage the risk management and legal function of Tshikululu Social Investments and its corporate client Trusts, including alignment of risk management, legal compliance and internal audit assurance functions for these entities.

Requirements:
  • Minimum requirement is a financial/risk management degree and ideally complemented by an advanced financial/legal or business qualification. (MSc, CA, PhD, ACIS, MBL, or MBA);
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a senior management / specialist role in the financial services industry responsible for Risk Management;
  • High degree of financial management skills and financial analysis;
  • Significant experience reporting and presenting at Exco and board level;
  • Completed articles of clerkship in a reputable accounting, risk management or legal firm would be an advantage;
  • Knowledge of Trust and Company legislation;
  • Understand Companies Act and Taxation Act;
  • Knowledge of the legislation pertaining to the NPO and PBO sector;
  • Communications skills including, oral, written, presentation and listening;
  • Interpersonal skills and a high level of proficiency in MS Office suite;
  • Valid driver’s licence;
  • Ability and willingness to travel to diverse parts of the country.
Responsibilities:

  • Manage risk management services including devising, implementing and reporting on all risks that affect Tshikululu and its clients;
  • Take a leadership role in imbedding a risk management culture in the company and its clients ensuring that appropriate risk mitigation strategies are in place at an operational and strategic level;
  • Manage the relationship with the Audit and Risk Committee of the board ensuring high quality reporting and presentation;
  • Manage legal services including strategy developing, implementation and monitoring thereof;
  • Manage all matters relating to Trust Deed compilation, registration, amendments and submissions to the Master of the High Court;
  • Manage corporate and client legal compliance including advisory services;
  • Develop and deliver the internal audit capacity of Tshikululu to help implement a combined assurance service;
  • Attend client meetings as and when required to provide reports, advice or recommendations when required;
  • Manage staff performance including: setting performance objectives; mentoring and coaching subordinates; ensuring that departmental knowledge building and sharing occurs; negotiating performance contracts; conducting performance appraisals; etc.
