This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to lead our country presence for Save the Children in South Sudan.
Save the Children is the world's leading independent organisation for children working in 120 countries. South Sudan is the newest country in the world with its legacy of thirty years of war has yet to be even partly addressed as its new government works to both develop and reach out to its people. Education rates remain extremely low with less than 10% of the population finishing primary school; and only 200 girls completing secondary school in 2011 (out of a total population of greater than 8 million people).
Save the Children's programming extends across almost all of South Sudan, with operational presence in nine states out of the total of ten regions. Programmatically the agency works in Child Rights Governance, Child Protection, Education, Health, Nutrition, and Livelihoods, in both humanitarian and long-term development contexts. We have been active in South Sudan for over 20 years with an annual budget for 2014 of $21million.
To be successful in this role, you will have significant senior level leadership and management experience in a large and complex humanitarian and/or crisis management agency, as well as senior field operations experience in a complex environment. You will be a strategic thinker who is experienced in leading change in an organisation and building personal networks at a senior level to sure new opportunities for the organisation.
