Democracy International (DI) seeks a
Communications Director for an international election observation mission of
upcoming electoral events in Egypt.The Communications Director will be
primarily based in Egypt for the duration of a project expected to last from
six to eight months. The successful candidate will be responsible for DI’s
engagement with the Egyptian and international media and will contribute to the
overall goals and objectives of the DI’s observation of Egypt’s upcoming
constitutional referendum and ensuing parliamentary and presidential elections.
The Communications Director will be DI’s primary point of contact for Egyptian
and international media and will work to manage the mission’s public message.
Responsibilities:
The Communication Director’s major responsibilities include
the following:
- Helping
develop and manage the mission’s public messaging;
- Serving
as the primary mission contact for both Egyptian and international media;
- Facilitating
media engagement for key mission personnel including through interviews
and press briefings;
- Assisting
in the preparation of press releases and leading the organization of press
conferences, media availabilities, and press briefings;
- Developing
and managing DI’s press list;
- Overseeing
the mission’s presence on social media; and
- Reporting
directly to the Mission Director and work collaboratively with the team on
other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Candidates should possess the following
qualifications:
- Five-10
years of experience working with the media either directly or as a
communications liaison, preferably with experience in the Middle East;
- Established
relationships with Egyptian and international media;
- Experience
with political reporting or election observation preferred;
- Professional
fluency in English required;
- Professional
fluency in Arabic strongly preferred; and
- Bachelor’s
degree or equivalent required; advanced degree in communications
preferred.

(USAID), the U.S. State Department and other development partners. Since its
