The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the
leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental
agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of
sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an
authoritative advocate for the global environment.
Established in April 2012, the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on
Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) has a membership of over 130
Governments (see www.ipbes. net) and seeks to respond to the needs of
governments and other stakeholders to strengthen the science-policy interface
on biodiversity and ecosystem services.
This position is located in the Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Platform
on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) at the Bonn duty station. Under
the direct supervision of the IPBES Executive Secretary, the Programme
Management Officer – Resource Mobilization will be responsible for the
following duties:
Responsibilities
• Designs, manages and implements a fundraising strategy for
IPBES, targeting:
1) governments and relevant governmental agencies of current IPBES member
states with a view to increase the number of member states making regular
voluntary contributions into the IPBES trust fund.
2) public and private organizations globally with a view to diversify funding
sources.
• Develops and updates a cartography identifying prospective donors, including
states currently not members of IPBES, public sector organizations,
multilateral institutions, financial international institutions, philanthropic
foundations, private companies, and assessing the fundraising opportunity for
IPBES and the prospects’ risk profile.
• Conducts bilateral prospective meetings with sustainability decision-makers
of potential donors, designs “Cases for support” and communication material
adapted to each target audience and organizes fundraising events
internationally to showcase the value of the work of IPBES and convince donors.
• Develops and refines fundraising proposals; negotiates and concludes funding
agreements, in consultation with legal and administrative units and conducts
the due diligence processes in compliance with internal regulations and rules.
• Develops existing donors’ loyalty by coordinating recognition and visibility
incentives, including events, in collaboration with IPBES Executive Secretary
and Communications teams.
• In parallel to prospective activities, raises awareness of IPBES products and
activities within new circles, including philanthropy and the business sector:
- by identifying international major biodiversity and sustainability events
with a private sector audience and seeking interventions by the IPBES Executive
Secretary or Chair at such venues
- by fostering private sector’s contribution to IPBES work, helping disseminate
calls for nominations of experts from the private sector to assist with the
scoping and the drafting of assessments.
• Assesses annually the results of the fundraising strategy and reports
regularly on the progress of fundraising activities to IPBES governing bodies
including sessions of the Plenary and meetings of the Bureau.
• Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide
insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization
methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and
reporting.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent)
in business administration, management, economics or a related field is
required.
A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of
qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics,
business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible
experience in fundraising, resource mobilization, project or programme
management, is required.
Experience working with the UN or another international organization
specialized in biodiversity or environment is desirable.
Work experience with sustainability in the private sector is desirable.
Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is
desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United
Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is
required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official
United Nations language is desirable.
NOTE: "Fluency equals a rating of "fluent" in all four areas
(read, write, speak, understand)
and "Knowledge of" equals a rating of "confident" in two of
the four areas.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment
exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
Appointment against this position is for an initial period
of one (1) year and may be subject to extension.
