Mission and objectives

The World Health Organization serves as the directing and coordinating authority for public health within the United Nations system. WHO seeks to promote health, ensure everyone can attain the highest level of health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable through partnerships, people and countries.

Context

Strategic Communications For Health (SCH) unit is an integrated part of the Department of Communications, Resource Mobilization and Partnership (CRP) at the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (WHO/EMRO). The unit’s Strategic Objective is to reinforce WHO’s role as the trusted health authority, and to share evidence-based health information in the Region.The program’s specific objectives are to: • Reach the public, donors, media and other stakeholders with accurate, timely and appealing information through traditional and innovative platforms to: ▪ promote WHO’s impact and credibility as the leading voice for public health; ▪ highlight heath needs across the region though human stories; ▪ communicate health risks and dispel misinformation. • Enhance WHO’s capacity to communicate for health, foster partnerships with the media and other key stakeholders, and attract resources for strategic priorities; • Reaffirm WHO staff’s knowledge of and pride in the work of the Organization; • Advise senior management on issues that affect WHO’s reputation and credibility.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Technical Manager SCH/CRP and the overall guidance of Director/CRP, the Multimedia and Studio Associate, is a member of the Corporate Communications team. The incumbent will be assigned to produce high-quality and compelling audio-visual and multimedia content in a timely and accurate manner. He/she will provide input to improve the usability, functionality, operations and maintenance of the WHO/EMRO multimedia studio. This function needs engagement with Corporate, Programme and Emergency Communication teams, as well as subject matter experts to identify audiovisual needs and support with planning and producing content that is line with WHO communications style, principles and standards. The Multimedia and Studio Associate will perform the following duties: 1. Create compelling and engaging audiovisual and multimedia content including audio and video interviews, recorded statements and presentations, short videos, b-roll, animated info graphics, photographs, podcasts and other materials. 2. Provide audiovisual services for corporate, programme, and emergency communication teams, as well as communication channels and platforms team, including but not limited to, during press conferences, meetings, events, missions, campaigns, and other related occasions. 3. Maintain WHO audiovisual studio and equipment, look after assets and ensure maintenance services are undertaken periodically. 4. Support enhancing and upgrading the studio’s infrastructure, equipment (hardware and software) when deemed necessary 5. Provide technical and administrative support for contracting external suppliers such as photographers, video cameraperson and audiovisual production companies. This includes: drafting bidding documents, selection reports, comparison tables, etc. 6. Contribute to communications audiovisual surge capacity work and deploy to the field when needed for emergency communications or support to countries and regions 7. Support developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) guidelines and digital platforms for studio operation as well as audiovisual productions to ensure workflow is efficient and optimized to meet deadlines and targets 8. Keep up to date with new technological trends and developments in the audiovisual and multimedia fields in order to maximize WHO’s capabilities to create engaging content with impact and to reach new audiences 9. Establish and maintain an archive of audio visual products in a systematic manner and contribute to WHO global and regional archiving platforms. 10. Contribute to the development and delivery of training and provision of peer support on audiovisual best practices to relevant colleagues across the WHO Communication network in the Region. Results/expected outputs: • As an active WHO/EMRO team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to WHO/EMRO and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment. • Increased quantity and enhanced quality of audiovisual and multimedia products. • Timely delivery of creative concepts and quality audiovisual solutions for corporate, programme, and emergency campaigns, events, and missions. • Improved planning and a more systematic implementation of audiovisual and multimedia projects. • WHO EMRO multimedia studio kept functional, maintained, and upgraded according to ongoing and emerging communication needs and technological trends. • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for health and development during the assignment.

Requirements

Required experience

15 years of experience in professional work experience at the national and/or international level in multimedia production, audio/video studio operations, video/photography developing animation, video editing, art direction. Asset: Additional experience in Graphic Design is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organizations. Essential knowledge and the skills required for the position: • Full Proficiency in Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Audition, Videography, and Photography. • Technical expertise in creation of audio-visual content for broadcast media and social media channels; • Knowledge of latest audio-visual technology and software; • Good presentation and design skills; • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills, headlines, captions, metadata, storylines; • Creative thinking and high degree of visual intelligence; • Proven skill in explaining technical matters to clients without digital knowledge; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment.

Master degree or equivalent in in a relevant field e.g. digital production, photo journalism, marketing, advertising, mass communication, or other fields related to multimedia production; - *strong candidates with a Bachelor’s degree complemented with extensive relevant work experience may be considered*.
