The UNDP Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme:
The UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) JPO
Programme equips outstanding young leaders with the skills and experience
required to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and make a positive
difference in the world. As a pathway into the world of development, the
programme offers young professionals excellent exposure to multilateral
cooperation and sustainable development while providing a valuable entry point
into the UN system.
Background
HDRO produces annually the editorially independent, UNDP
flagship - global Human Development Report (HDR), Multidimensional Poverty
Index (MPI) among other reports. Since inception in 1990 the report has acted
as a highly visible and influential people-centered contribution to development
thinking. Each edition is launched around the world by UNDP HQ and country,
liaison offices as contributions to public debate and policy making at
national, regional and global levels; picked up by global and national media,
and the analysis – and annually updated human development indices and data sets
are used by governments, civil society, academia and development partners in
their policy formulation and advocacy. HDRO also supports the development,
quality assurance and promotion of regional and national human development
reports.
Throughout the year, the office also seeks to promote the
human development concept and approach to analysis and policy making through
targeted outreach mechanisms, including via the web and social media, to
influential stakeholders, through engagement with academic networks and by
convening and participating in expert and high-visibility events, including but
not limited to the global human development forum and other relevant conferences.
An ongoing engagement with global media, internal stakeholders is important in
this regard.
Under the guidance and direct supervision of
the Communications Specialist (Outreach), the Communications and Outreach
Analyst performs functions to coordinate and implement the outreach and
communications strategy for the annual Human Development Report (HDR), organize
events and ongoing outreach on human development. Working with other bureaus
and offices of UNDP, the Analyst acts as HDRO focal point in contributing to
the selection of appropriate media to promote human development, HDR, MPI, and
for the development of presentations, advocacy materials; identifies and
maintains a database of relevant international stakeholders among policy
makers, experts and opinion leaders (public/private), media etc. and applies
suitable means of outreach for them. The Analyst works on developing relations
with the media, keeps abreast with key events where HDRO could further advocate
human development concept, HDR, organizing events and identifying opportunities
to influence debates. The Analyst acts as support to communication strategies
for regional and national reports. The key functions would be communication and
outreach: strategy and implementation; contributions to the launch of the
annual HDR; and other editorial functions.
Content and Methodology of Supervision

Under the overall supervision of the Director of HDRO key
duties of Communications and Outreach Analyst are as follows:
- Supports
the implementation of HDRO outreach and partnerships;
- Coordination
of events organized by HDRO and the participation of the Director events,
including coordination of missions;
- Support
the coordination of launch events.
Training and Learning:
- Use of
yearly JPO duty-related travel and training allocation (DTTA), as per
the online DTTA guide
- Onboarding
and Orientation Programme and other training and learning
opportunities provided by UNDP
Duties and Responsibilities
Implementation of HDRO Communication Strategy designs and implements an ongoing
media and outreach strategies in order to generate greater awareness,
understanding and supports Human Development, HDR, MPI:
- Maintains
a calendar of relevant conferences and events that provides opportunities
for showcasing HD, HDR, MPI;
- Produces
social media content including, text, photos, videos and audio for use
across a range of integrated online platforms including UNDP sharepoint
and HDRO external website, Twitter and Facebook pages;
- Monitors
media tracking and assesses the general reaction of the public to HDRO
work on the basis of information gathered from media, organized groups and
correspondence
Coordinates media activities and actively engages
international media as well as respond to media inquiries:
- Prepares
and edits news releases, features, question and answer documents;
brochures and other publicity material for HDRO outreach:
- Acts
as media focal point and implements a comprehensive media toolkit;
- Contributes
development of HDRO fundraising material and reports in the context of
communication;
Coordination of launch events (global, regional, national
etc. levels):
- Designs
and implements the communication and media strategies for the launch and
dissemination of the Human Development Reports, including identification
of facilitators, coordination with speakers; organizational issues such as
invitations, concept notes, agendas, panelists’ kits and invitees folders;
- Establishes
and maintains pro-active, effective and dynamic relations with key
international media outlets and relevant publications to communicate
and/or to seek their support for the launch of HDR, MPI;
- Plans
and drafts key messages, briefing and press releases for the HDR, MPI
launches; designs the social media strategy for the launch of the HDR,
MPI;
- Liaises
with relevant UNDP offices to identify the possible global launch venues,
coordinates preparations for the global, regional and national launches,
organizes pre-launch substantive briefings for relevant UNDP staff
including Country Offices and dissemination of launch-related materials,
including a launch kit;
- Liaises
with BERA, representative offices on high profile launches and in
countries without UNDP country offices;
- Coordinates
with communications/production colleagues to ensure timely posting and
dissemination of documents/materials

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- Master’s
Degree or equivalent Advanced Degree in international affairs, development
studies or related area
Experience:
- Minimum
2 years of paid and relevant experience in development, international
relations, communications, social science, economics, or related field.
- Experience
in development sector
- Knowledge
of and/or professional experience in communications, data analysis is
highly desirable
- Professional
experience within the United Nations System is desirable
- Understanding
of political, social and economic research tools and instruments

Languages (required): Fluency in Korean and

31 December, 2023 (born after 1 January, 1991). The maximum age limit for those
